Well, I have seen all this happen so comfortably all through Umesh’s Puppetry classes.
It always has been an immense pleasure watching Umesh interact with children of all ages and bringing forth their strengths in storytelling.
Helping them weave their imaginations into a story and then creating hand puppets to tell the story seems all so easy when you watch him working with children.
The children learn the art of creating hand puppets with simplest of tools like old rags and plastic balls. Umesh is great at team building exercises bringing them all together and tapping on their natural talent of portraying different characters, making storytelling a matter of total rollicking fun. Children’s enthusiasm to these sessions is a true testament to Umesh’s success as a Puppeteer!

Umesh conducted a fabulous workshop with almost 50 of our kids at Karm Marg. Starting with telling them all about puppets and the different kinds to then demonstrating them. Children had a lot of fun exploring these puppets and burst into squeals of laughter with his hilarious stories and voices he gave to each.
He then also helped them make their own puppet with newspaper. Working with their ds, the children leant about body proportions and joint movements etc and thoroughly enjoyed having their own puppet at the end of the session.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Umesh on a creative collaboration between puppeteers and researchers. In September 2018 we spent time in a school in rural Rajasthan using puppetry as a way of talking about water scarcity and climate change. Umesh uses his puppeteering skills to engage children is a kind and fun manner. His commitment to both puppetry and social change is evident in the way he works. I enjoyed working with Umesh and hope to have to opportunity to collaborate with him again in the future.
